Chester Nez WWII Navajo Code Talker

Chester Nez (1921-2014) was one of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers, men who developed the only unbroken code in modern warfare and took it into battle in World War II. Chester received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2001 for his services to his country and was the first Code Talker to write his memoirs in 2012, assisted by our speaker Judith Avila. His grandson Latham Nez will attend our program and sell copies of “Code Talker” by Chester Nez afterwards.

Trick-or-Treat MainStreet in downtown Artesia, NM will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Main Street between 2nd and 7th Streets. The event will feature free candy for kids, a variety of food trucks, a costume contest, and more fun activities for the whole family. It's a great way to celebrate Halloween in a safe and festive environment!

We are excited to invite you to the 49th annual Art in the Park!
This year's event will take place on October 18 & 19 at Jaycee Park. Art in the Park has grown to become a highlight of our community's cultural calendar, attracting thousands of attendees who come to enjoy the vendors, artists, and food trucks! This event is cherished by the Southeast New Mexico community and is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to enjoy a day filled with creativity, music, and fun!

This year, we are continuing to expand our Art in the Park event by introducing a Kid Zone, Pumpkin Patch, and new vendors! Our Food Truck Alley is always a highlight, bustling with activity from opening until closing. Patrons enjoy meals and snacks under the tents after a variety of fun activities, including the AHS Band Boosters Annual Cake Walk.

Get ready for The Big Downtown Kick-off & Gear Up For Game Day! Join us on Monday, August 19th at 5:30 PM at The Derrick Floor. Downtown boutiques will be open especially for you!

Then, at 6:30, head to the Derrick Floor to join in on the community pep rally to kick off Eddy County War week before the big game on Friday, 8/23. Let’s Have Foam will be at the Derrick Floor for a foam party and come down to meet and greet AHS athletes.

Fused Glass Jewelry Workshop

Hosted by Artesia Arts Council at OPAC - 310 W. Main Street Instructors Linda & Lindell Smith will offer a workshop where students will learn how to build jewelry from glass for fusing. Everyone will build a pendant and a set of earrings (after the instructors fire the class pieces, participants will be able to pick them up during office hours). Ages 18 + or 14-17 with an adult registrant.
